Gov. Lingle Accepts Freedom Award
Undersecretary of Defense and chief financial officer Robert Hale (left) and Assistant Secretary of Defense for Reserve Affairs Dennis McCarthy presented the 2010 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award to Gov. Linda Lingle. The Freedom Award, recently presented in Washington, D.C., is the highest recognition given by the U.S. government to employers for their outstanding support of employees who serve in the National Guard and Reserve.
NHHCA Receives $100,000
The Nanakuli Hawaiian Homestead Community Association recently received a $100,000 grant from Hawaiian Electric Company for the development of the Agnes Kalanihookaha Cope Learning Center. The 47,000-square-foot center is the first-phase component of Nanakuli Village Center, envisioned to be a neighborhood gathering place and a focal point for Hawaiian cultural programs. Christine Camp Honored By HKCC
Christine Camp (center), founder, president and CEO of Avalon Group, a Hawaii-based real estate development and consulting firm, was recognized as the Hawaii Korean Chamber of Commerce’s 2010 Entrepreneur of the Year at the annual Korean Festival. Camp’s recognition comes on the 11th anniversary of her one-woman-owned real estate development consulting office. Despite daunting economic conditions, the firm today boasts three operating divisions: Avalon Commercial, Avalon Realty and Avalon Development & Consulting, with diverse portfolios on all Hawaiian Islands.
