Music at Michel’s
Here’s a rare opportunity to experience a truly intimate evening. Michel’s at The Colony Surf, best known for exquisite food and service, will play host to Amy Hanaiali’i Gilliom Oct. 2-5. The musical evenings are a prelude to Gilliom’s upcoming New York engagement and should provide guests with an up-close and personal evening of music and food. Tickets are $40 and include pupu and a drink,but make plans to sample some of Chef Hardy’s European cuisine while you’re there. Matt Catingub, Jeff Peterson, David “Chino"Montero and Steve Jones will join Gilliom as they preview the show, which opens Oct. 9 at Feinstein’s at Loews Regency, New York. The evening needs only the accompaniment of lapping waves against the shore, and a gentle trade wind blowing through. Michel’s has that, too.

Moon Cakes At Hee Hing
Time to head to Hee Hing Chinese Restaurant and pick up its famous moon cakes. The annual festival celebrating the full moon runs Sept. 21 through 25 - with the traditionally made cakes usually selling out quickly.
There’s a set menu for 10 also available this coming weekend, where for $195 guests can enjoy some of the restaurant’s most popular dishes, including honeydew melon duck salad, scallop corn soup, scallion Maine lobster e mein, honey glazed lemon chicken, pepper salt shrimp and the baked moon cakes.
Moon cakes can be preordered at the restaurant and picked up from Sept. 21.

Salsa at Sergio’s
Not too many restaurants can boast that you may lose a few pounds after a visit - but Sergio’s at Hilton Hawaiian Village may lay claim to be the first. Salsa nights, headed up by “salsa chef"Alfredo Lee have taken off since starting just a couple of weeks ago as word spreads among the city’s late night Latin dance crowd.
“I love to dance,” says Lee, who heads out of the kitchen and onto the dance floor as often as he can. A native of Tuscany, Lee brings a new twist to late nights at Sergio’s, with a menu of dishes inspired by his culinary travels through Italy and his love of fresh, simple food.
The Hot Havana Nightclub takes place at Sergio’s on Thursday evenings only, from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. Cover charge; 21 and over.

Tea for Two ... For Free
You don’t have to be getting married to enjoy a visit to The Wedding Café in Manoa Marketplace. Monthly afternoon teas with a Hawaii gourmet twist have become popular with groups who want to get together and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere and good food. Of course, if you are planning a wedding, there’s no better place to stop and take advantage of the incredible resources it has to offer. “Mint,” the afternoon tea experience, runs on the first Sunday of each month and features dishes created by co-owner Tessa Takekawa.

“We wanted to take the idea of a traditional afternoon tea and give it a Hawaii touch,” she says. So guests at the monthly event find themselves eating wraps instead of heavy sandwiches, summer rolls filled with fresh, light ingredients like cucumber, and feta salad, curried chicken salad, and Big Island lavosh with strawberry butter instead of scones and jam. There are a series of afternoon teas, with alternating menus, and the Wedding Café may be booked for private parties, showers and celebrations. Book now for the Oct. 7 event, and take advantage of a “buy one, try one free” offer that’s currently running.
