Lots of high quality seafood on the menu at Sansei this New Year's Eve

A bite-sized look at food and wine events in Honolulu.

“Winos” familiar with Brewer Clifton, Melville Vineyards or the highly acclaimed Diatom label will be pleased to note that the man responsible for these remarkable wines is coming to town. Greg Brewer will guest at Vino on Saturday, Jan. 26, and master sommelier Chuck Furuya intends to make the most of his time.

“We’re hosting two events on the same evening,” says Chuck. “There’s a wine tasting at 5:30 and then dinner at 7:30. We know that people will really be excited to meet Greg and to hear him talk about his incredible wines.”

The wine tasting will feature five wines and costs $45. Dinner is a four-course pairing by executive chef Keith Endo; cost is $75.

Mark your calendars Brewer’s wines fall into that category of “often talked about and seldom seen” in Hawaii, so this is a great opportunity to taste some great wine in an informal group. There’s limited seating for both events.

Half off at Shore Bird.

There’s never been a better time to visit the Shore Bird in Waikiki especially if you have friends or family visiting for the holidays. The popular beachfront restaurant has some of the best views in Waikiki and some of the best value meals.

Open from 7 a.m. for breakfast, Shore Bird offers casual oceanfront dining with live entertainment and 50 percent off the entire food check for parties of four or less. That means you can have a beachfront breakfast for under $10 and dine like a king on steak and seafood specials that would cost more than twice the price a few steps further down the beach. There’s free valet parking too, until the end of the year. Just pull up in front of the Outrigger Reef Hotel and head for the beach.

Reservations: 922-2887.
