Ask winemaker Jim Clendenen, owner of Au Bon Climat (and the man named “Winemaker of the World ” in 2004 by Wein Gourmet) where his favorite restaurant is, and you’ll get an enthusiastic reply. “I went to Melisse recently,” he says, “and I was just blown away by the food. It’s easily the best meal I’ve had in a long time.” High praise indeed for a man whose palate is trusted by millions of wine enthusiasts worldwide.
There’s a rare chance to taste the food of Melisse owner Josiah Citrin this weekend at Chefs Du Jour, where a few tickets remain for the grazing event and fundraiser for Easter Seals Hawaii. Citrin has been invited to star at the fundraising event Saturday by Alan Wong, who’s followed the young chefs career with interest.
“Josiah Citrin is a very talented chef,” says Alan. “Luckily for us he also likes Hawaii and he loves to surf.”
Other notable chefs joining Wong include Philippe Padovani, Donato Loperfido, Hiroshi Fukui, Hank Adaniya, Alan Takasaki and “Iron Chef French” Hiroyuki Sakai.

Tio’s Mexican Food ... and Burgers Too.
In case you didn’t notice, Dixie Grill closed its doors and reopened last year as Tio’s. The menu is based on “New Mex” cooking, a style adopted by owner Ed Wary (who also owns Auntie Pasto’s and Dixie Grill, Aiea) after his extensive travels through Mexico. “People aren’t too familiar with the food,” says Director of Operations Jim Hamacheck, “so we’ve added a few local favorites to the menu to give people something more familiar at lunch and dinner.” Alongside some excellent green chili dishes (there’s a fabulous chili relleno that’s a must-try for Mexican food lovers) you’ll now find green chili burgers tender calamari, carne adovado and spicy homemade salsas.
