In a first-time effort, Windward Oahu advocates for the homeless put on a party for their special guests Dec. 14 at Ben Parker Elementary School. There was plenty of food, crafts for the keiki and entertainment by Believe, Vaihi and the Koolauloa Children’s Chorus. Individuals, churches and community organizations pitched in to make it a happy experience for the families. In all, the sponsors had 61 guests: 24 children and teenagers, and 37 adults, according to D. Keala Naluai, founder and president of Malama O Kamalii Makamae. While several groups have staged outreach programs along the Windward coast, Naluai says this is a first for bringing them all together, from Waimanalo to Kahuku.
