For its first golf tournament, St. John Vianney Parish School was “very pleased” with the $11,000 profit for its endowment fund to help students with tuition. Play got under way June 19 at Mid- Pac Country Club with 135 for golf and 190 for the silent auction and dinner, an event emceed by Frank DeLima. According to school business manager Sheryl Caldeira, Guy Brannum had the idea and did most of the work on the tournament. There were prizes for nearly everyone, though none made a hole-inone to claim the two cars on the course. Caldeira says SJV directly provides $80,000 in financial aid annually. (Tuition is $4,900). The inaugural tourney was scheduled for early spring, but a flooded course forced postponement until June.
