Waimanalo’s multitalented artist Patrick Ching is aiming to perform as a clown in the Big Methven Rodeo Oct. 21 on South Island, New Zealand. (Among other attractions, Methven was a home base for crews filming Lord of the Rings.) But to get there with his team and supporters takes some serious cash — thus a great excuse for the party Ching threw Sept. 16 at his Naturally Hawaiian Gallery. Starting with the nearby polo match, the fun was non-stop into the evening. Guests paying $30 each enjoyed the music of Malani Bilyeu, Guy Cruz and David Kawika Jamieson, while consuming a steak-and-shrimp dinner. Dancing and lively auctions followed. To join the team effort, call 259-5347.
