Olomana Community Association’s Christmas Parade has spread its homegrown, wacky cheer along a one-mile stretch of the neighborhood for at least 30 years, and many say that 2006 was the biggest and best. Officer Sonny Kanoho and OCA’s Certified Emergency Response Team led an odd but jolly procession of bikes, skateboarders, flatbeds, a rickshaw, Harley, Model T, an “angel” dog, the Red Hat Society and two fire trucks from the Olomana station. The long march ended in the Maunawili school cafeteria with plenty of cookies and punch. Two things missing: no big bands (but working on it for next year) and no cats. “We’ve had horses, bunnies and dogs, but never a cat,” says chairwoman Leslie Pacarro.
