For the 27th year, Castle Medical Center invites the public to its tree-lighting ceremony Dec. 7, complete with two concerts, trolley rides, a Santa parade and tribute display to Americans who defended our country on that “day of infamy.”
Throughout the evening, starting at 5 p.m., trolley rides take visitors to and from the holiday light displays in downtown Kailua. A concert of Christmas music begins at 6:15. Children’s activities are planned at the Wellness on Wheels van, and Santa’s friends will parade with him around the grounds to greet the keiki. The Hawaii Royal Order of Guards will perform. Emcees are broadcast celebrities Kutmaster Spaz and Dawn O’Brien.
Highlight of the 27th annual event, however, is when thousands of lights go on at 7 p.m. on the 60foot tree and throughout the decorated buildings and grounds. Following at 7:30 is a holiday concert by the award-winning Windward band Vaihi, which the crowd can enjoy while consuming free popcorn, Christmas cookies and drinks. A Bistro tent will sell light meals.
Parking is available at Kailua High School, with buses shuttling visitors from 5 p.m.
Sponsors are Kaneohe Ranch, the Harold K.L. Castle Foundation, First Hawaiian Bank, Ameron Hawaii, Guild Mortgage Co. Kailua, Aloha Party Rentals and Supplies, Starbucks and other community partners.
