Wine bottles and pickle jars can still have value even when they’re empty, now that a local recycler has started paying cash for them at its neighborhood redemption centers.
Responding to the city’s decision to pay recycling companies more for non-deposit glass containers, Reynolds Recycling announced Jan. 2 that it would pay 4 cents per pound to customers bringing in clean, empty glass bottles with no lids. That price may fluctuate, however.
“This is an exciting expansion for us,“said RR president Terry Telfer, “as this makes glass recycling so much easier for the public. Instead of throwing these into the rubbish or curbside bins, people can take them to any of our Oahu redemption centers and get money for them.”
Windward centers are located at Kahuku Sugar Mill, Hauula Kai Center, Koolau Center, Aikahi Park and Keolu shopping centers and the Hawaiian Homes Association in Waimanalo. For more information, call 487-2802.
