Prepare now before it happens, and prepare because you care.
These are themes of an Emergency Preparedness Fair from 9 a.m. to noon Oct. 15 at the Kaneohe Stake Center of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints.
“Mormons have been counseled to be self-reliant and self-sustaining at all times,” explained Herbert Kaopua, a member of the church that has hosted the free fairs for 20 years.
Experts’ lecture topics are: Fortifying your House, Becoming Self-reliant through Gardening, and Becoming a Trained Volunteer. Displays will show how to store food and water and how to prepare for emergencies such as flash floods, dock strikes, fire, hurricanes, tsunamis and unemployment. Also available: a 72-hour emer- gency kit for evacuations.
Several agencies will have exhibits and give advice, including State Civil Defense, the UH Sea Grant Program, Honolulu Police and Emergency Manage- ment departments, Neigh- borhood Security Watch and NOAA. Refreshments will be made from food storage items.
The church is at 46-117 Halaulani St., across from King Intermediate School. For details, call chairman Paul Tomita at 387-6235.
