Thank two Eagle Scouts for recent improvements at a Kailua ball field and church.
Both seniors and athletes at Kalaheo, Frank Ormonde and Brenon Dopp, were honored in November after completing their final Eagle Scout badge requirement - the community service project.
Ormonde and his crew repaired the Kailua District Park baseball field, and Dopp’s volunteers tackled repairs to classrooms at the Kailua second ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (which sponsors Boy Scout Troop 238, to which they both belong.)
“Because it is near and dear to his heart - he plays for Kalaheo - Frank reshaped the park baseball field,” said Ormonde’s mother Marilyn, noting that the project took 98 man hours of work from 29 Scouts, adults and other volunteers. They weeded and reformed the field and pitch-er’s mound, sanded and repainted dugout benches and storage bins, filled potholes, closed holes in the fence and removed graffiti.
Dopp’s mission was to repair and build new window screens for children’s classrooms, as well as fix the drinking fountains. He and his group of 17 dedicated 50 man hours to the task.
Eagle Scouts also must earn 21 merit badges and serve as troop leaders.
