The Kaneohe Christmas Parade kicks off at 9 a.m. Saturday, with about 4,000 participants planned to greet the crowds along Kamehameha Highway as they move from Windward Mall to Castle High School.

“Come early because it is a variety of many things we have in the parade,” said Art Machado, who is chairing the parade for the 30th time. He listed motorcycles, antique cars, Mrs. Hawaii and much more.

There also will be 23 floats and several bands such as the Marine Forces Pacific Band, Royal Hawaiian Band, as well as high school bands from Kahuku, Castle, Farrington and Saint Louis.

Grand marshal is Kelly Boy De Lima and his family. “These guys do really outstanding work besides entertainment,” added Machado. “They do a luncheon on Thanksgiving day for the homeless at Kahaluu every year. His family entertains.”

Parade T-shirts, whose sales support the annual march, are available at First Hawaiian Bank at Kaneohe Bay Shopping Center, Jamba Juice, Koolau Pets at Windward Mall, Kaneohe Bakery and at American Savings Bank.

Yamashiro Trucking Co. donated 300 bags of candy that will be passed out along the route, and King Intermediate School will provide the cleanup crew.

Look for the Marines and their trucks alongside the marchers; they will be collecting new, unwrapped toys from onlookers for the Toys For Tots program.
