The Sept. 2 “Taste of KickStart,” held at Aina Haina’sgracious Bayer Estate, sur-passed its goal of raising$40,000 for Lee Donohue’skarate program that blendsmartial arts and positive lifechoices for students age 11and older.  Back to the party,180 guests paid $150 eachto enjoy culinary morselsfrom chefs Alan Wong andRoy Yamaguchi, and fromShanghai Bistro and YataiSushi at the fifth annualgala. Kristian Lei and H-4sang, as did Mayor MufiHannemann without so muchas one karate chop to per-suade him. Former policechief Donohue is still accept-ing donations to support KickStart Karate, which holdsclasses at the police acade-my in Waipahu.
