Koko Marina Center took on Hawaii’s cowboy history in a light-hearted way this fall. The center caught the spirit of the Aloha Festivals celebration Sept. 22 by presenting its version of an old Hawaiian-style party, “Na Paniolo Nui O Hawaii (The Great Cowboys of Hawaii).” The crowds took to the theme and enjoyed a number of hands-on activities, games, demonstrations and performances. A special treat was when saddle maker Albert Moniz showed the folks a few of his lassoing tricks. Halau Hula o Leolani performed for its hometown crowd, and everyone got a chance to learn how to make lauhala, haku and ti leaf leis. Koko Marina shifted gears in November to welcome Santa in on an old-style fire truck.
