Calvary By The Sea Lutheran Church plans its fourth annual Interfaith Thanksgiving Service at 6 p.m. Nov. 21 with participation from the Buddhist, Christian, Hindu, Jewish, Sikh and Sufi communities.
The public is invited to the free program, titled “Sharing the Blessing of God’s Grace with Aloha.” Fellowship and snacks follow the service. For details, call 377-5477.
“It’s a really wonderful evening on a gorgeous campus where people can unite and enjoy each other’s experience,” said Tom Poole, director of worship and the arts at the East Oahu church. Singers from at least six Oahu churches are in the choir for the service, which is sponsored by East Honolulu Interfaith Communities.
The Interfaith Choir will perform on the theme “A Celebration of Gratitude,” directed by Don Conover (Church of the Crossroads), Sangeet Gellhorn (Central Union) and Poole. Rev. Patri Hildreth of the Center for Spiritual Living will give a blessing, and Calvary’s Kahu Tim Mason will welcome and introduce all faiths.
Also planned are shofar and dance by Beth Israel Jewish Ministries, hula by Na Wahine O Ke Kai Ola (from Calvary), Vipassana (meditation) by Dr. Thanh Huynh, and readings from Ramdas Lamb (Hindu), Manjit Reddick (Sikh), Gellhorn, offertory by Rev. Kyle Lovett (Crossroads), plus more hymns and a benediction. Valerie Noor Karima will lead the congregation in a Sufi dance, “Shakur Allah.”
Donations received will support mission work.
