Below are highlights of what’s happening in the East Oahu community in the next few weeks.
* Honolulu Newcomers Club has a Pupu Party at 7 p.m. Jan. 6, a Welcome Coffee at 10 a.m. Jan. 11 and its monthly luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Jan. 18. Call 396-2628.
* Area neighborhood boards meet at 7 p.m. this month on the following dates: Palolo, Jan. 10 in the Palolo Elementary School cafeteria; Diamond Head-Kapahulu-St. Louis Heights, Jan. 11 at the Ala Wai clubhouse; Kaimuki, Jan. 17 at Liliuokalani Elementary School; WaialaeKahala, Jan. 18 at Wesley United Methodist Church; and Hawaii Kai, Jan. 30 at Hahaione Elementary School. * The Hawaii Blood Bank conducts area donor drives this month from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Jan. 14 at Hawaii Kai Towne Center; 7 to 11 a.m. Jan. 14 at Kahala Mall (near Macy’s Men’s Dept.); 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Jan. 25 at Chaminade University; 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Jan. 25 in the Kaiser High library; and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Jan. 29 at KCC. * Jan. 16 is the deadline to apply as a candidate for the neighborhood board elections. Residents and non-residents 18 and over may also register to vote by Jan. 16 at the Neighborhood Commission office. Call 527-5749.
* The Kaiser Hawaii Kai Clinic offers the AARP Driver Safety class from 8 a.m. to noon Jan. 20 and 27 with Ed Jurkins. Call 432-2260.
* East Honolulu Community Children’s Council is scheduled to meet at 5 p.m. Jan. 17 in the Aina Haina Elementary School media room. Parents of children with special needs are welcome. Call 586-5363.
* Hanauma Bay Education Center presents the free film Violent Hawaii at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 18 in the park theater. Encountering Sea Monsters will be shown Jan. 25. Call 397-5840. * Kaiser High’s 2007 Project Graduation sponsors a Pizza Day Jan. 24 at any Papa John’s (bring special fund-raising form). Call 753-2668.
* Kona Brewing Co. Pub in Koko Marina Center has live music at 7 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, and Sundays at 6. Call 394-5662.
