Below are highlights of what’s happening in the East Oahu community in the next few weeks.

* The Kaimuki Christmas Parade starts at 6 p.m. Dec. 7, marching from Chaminade along Waialae to Koko Head Avenue. The finale is the tree lighting at the fire station. Call 733-7350.

* Hawaii State Ballet presents The Nutcracker Dec. 8-17 at Mamiya Theatre. For tickets, call 741-6205.

* The city Department of Planning and Permitting holds a public hearing at 10 a.m. Dec. 8 in the Mission Memorial auditorium on a permit to expand Honolulu Waldorf School’s Niu Valley campus. Call 527-5046.


* Kahala Mall presents Holunape at 2 p.m. Dec. 9, John Cruz at 2 p.m. Dec. 16, and Maunalua at 2 p.m. Dec. 23. Call 732-7736.

* Hanauma Bay Education Center presents a free lecture at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 7 in the park theater. Joseph Genz of the Sea Grant program will discuss navigating in the Marshall Islands. Call 397-5840.

* The Hawaii Blood Bank conducts area donor drives from 7 a.m. to noon Dec. 9 at Waiokeola Congregational Church; 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Dec. 17 at Hawaii Kai Towne Center; 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 23 in the Kaimuki Municipal Parking Lot; and 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Dec. 31 at Hawaii Kai Towne Center. * Koko Marina Center hosts a Creations of Hawaii Craft & Gift Fair from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 9.

* The Palolo Neighborhood Board meets at 7 p.m. Dec. 13 in the Palolo Elementary School cafeteria. Call 527-5749.

* Honolulu Newcomers Club hosts a Welcome Aloha Coffee at 10 a.m. Dec. 14 and a monthly luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Dec. 21. Call 396-2628.

* Hanauma Bay Education Center presents a free lecture at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 14 in the park theater. UH Sea Grant graduate student Daniel O’Doherty will discuss his study of invasive macroalgae in the main Hawaiian islands. Call 397-5840.

* The annual Festival of Lights Boat Parade starts at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 16 in waters off of Hawaii Kai Towne Center featuring dockside entertainment and activities at all three shopping centers while 30 decorated boats proceed through the marina. Call 396-2469.

* Hawaii Health E-Network presents Grandmaster Qinyin and Powerful Group Healing from 1:30 to 4 p.m. Dec. 16 at the Hawaii Kai Library. Considered a foremost Qigong innovator and spiritual teacher, she will share insights from decades of practice in China. Fee is $10 in advance. Call 638-0888.


* Musicians in the Hawaii Youth Symphony string program perform at 2 p.m. Dec. 17 in the Kaimuki High School auditorium. Call 941-9706.

* The Hawaii Kai Library presents A Very Merry Christmas Party at 5:15 p.m. Dec. 18 with stories, balloons, prizes, goodie bags, crafts and refreshments. Call 397-5833.

* An exhibit of original works by artist Solomon Enos is scheduled for Dec. 21 at the Moku Ola Hawaiian Art Gallery in Koko Marina Center. Call 479-6550.

* Kona Brewing Co. Pub in Koko Marina Center offers live music from Hawaii’s headline entertainers at 7 p.m. Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, and from 6 to 8 p.m. Sundays. Call 394-5662.
