* NEIGHBORS Neighborhood boards meeting at 7 p.m. this month are Kuliouou-Kalani Iki Feb. 5 at Aina Haina Library; Palolo Feb. 11 at Palolo Elementary School cafeteria; Diamond Head-Kapahulu-St. Louis Heights Feb. 12 at Ala Wai Clubhouse; Kaimuki Feb. 18 at Liliuokalani Elementary School; Waialae-Kahala Feb. 19 at Wesley United Methodist Church; and Hawaii Kai Feb. 24 at Hahaione Elementary School. * CARE WORKER CLASS Kapiolani Community College conduct an Elder Stay@Home course beginning Feb. 5 with 25 hours of training. Call 734-9108.


 

* TRANSIT COMMENTS The public has until Feb. 6 to comment on the city’s draft EIS for its rapid transit plan. Copies are at area libraries. Go to www.honolulutransit.org.

* MUSIC WORKSHOP Breakthrough Performance Workshop offers a three-part program to “reclaim your true voice and your true creative expression.“The evening workshop meets Feb. 6 to 8 on the Kahala campus of Waldorf High School. Fee is $350. Call 778-6117.

* LITERACY TRAINING Hawaii Literacy conducts an orientation at 10 a.m. Feb. 7 at the Kahala Barnes & Noble for those interested in becoming volunteer reading tutors for adults. Call 537-6706.

* PROM DRESSES American Savings Bank at Kahala Mall collects gently used prom dresses from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 7. Call 732-7736.

* BLOOD DRIVES Hawaii Blood Bank conducts donor drives from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 16 in the Kaimuki Municipal Parking Lot; 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 22 at Kahala Mall near Macy’s men’s department; 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 26 at Kaiser High School library; and 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. March 1 at Hawaii Kai Towne Center. * CHILDREN’S COUNCIL The East Honolulu Community Children’s Council meets at 5 p.m. Feb. 18 in the Aina Haina Elementary School media room. Parents of children with special needs are invited. Call 428-1738.


* SOUVENIR Diamond Head Theatre presents the musical Souvenir now through Feb. 15, featuring Stephanie Smart and Laurence Paxton. Call 733-0274.

* LION DANCE Koko Marina Center marks Chinese New Year at noon Feb. 7 with a lion dance by the Asia Arts Organization. Call 737-4676, ext. 26.

* BOOK SALE Kaimuki Library plans its “Bookzilla” sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 14, offers bargain prices on thousands of books, CDs, DVDs, videos, audio-books and LPs. Call 733-8423.

* EIGHBORS ON BOARD Residents wishing to run for a seat on their neighborhood board should mail or hand-carry their candidacy declaration form by Feb. 20 to the Neighborhood Commission. Call 768-3717.

* KOKO CRATER HIKE Nathan Wong conducts a hike in Koko Crater at 9 a.m. Feb. 21 to see the xerophytic plants. Call 522-7063.

* TAIKO CLASS Taiko Center of the Pacific offers beginning taiko drumming Feb. 24-April 5 at the KCC Annex Building. Fee is $88 for adults and $78 for youths and teens. Call 737-7236 or 734-9211.

* COLLEGE WORKSHOP Admissions counselors and First Hawaiian Bank hold a workshop on college financial aid at 7 p.m. Feb. 26 at Kalani High School cafeteria. Attendees get a free workbook on college planning, refreshments and door prizes.
