Below are highlights of what’s happening in the East Oahu community in the next few weeks.

* NEIGHBORS Area neighborhood boards meeting at 7 p.m. include: Kuliouou Aug. 7 at Aina Haina Library; Palolo Aug. 13 in the Palolo Elementary School cafeteria; Diamond Head-Kapahulu-St. Louis Heights Aug. 14 at the Ala Wai Clubhouse; Kaimuki Aug. 20 in the Liliuokalani Elementary School cafeteria; and Hawaii Kai Aug. 26 in the Hahaione Elementary School cafeteria. * MAUNALUA WATCH Maunalua Makai Watch has field days to monitor fish and algae at the bay with the Nature Conservancy on Aug. 8, 13, 19and 29. Call 295-9745.

* CONCERT Hawaii Kai Towne Center presents its final free summer concert at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 9 on the waterfront stage with The Brothers Cazimero. Call 396-0766.

* BLOOD DRIVES Hawaii Blood Bank conducts donor drives from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Aug. 10 at Hawaii Kai Towne Center; from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 15 at Foodland headquarters on Harding Avenue (bloodmobile in Kaimuki municipal lot); and from 7 a.m. to noon Aug. 24 at Kahala Mall (by Macy’s men’s department). * VEGAN TALK Bruce Friedrich, vice president of PETA, discusses “Eating for Planetary Survival” at 7 p.m. Aug. 12 at the Ala Wai Clubhouse (behind the Waikiki-Kapahulu Library). Call the Vegetarian Society at 944-8344.

* STORYTIME Hawaii Kai Library’s final summer pre-school storytime is at 10:30 a.m. Aug. 13. Call 397-5833.

* KALANI GOLF A Kalani Falcons benefit golf tournament is set for 10:30 a.m. Aug. 14 at Hawaii Prince Golf Club in Ewa. Call 377-7744.

* NUTCRACKER Hawaii State Ballet offers online ticket discounts through Aug. 16 on its December production of The Nutcracker, set for Dec. 12-21 at Mamiya Theatre. Call 550-8457.

* SCRAP BOOKS A scrap-booking consultant plans a “Scrap and Slap” session from 1 to 5 p.m. Aug. 17 in the Koko Head Elementary School cafeteria for people who enjoy scrap-booking. * TAMANAHA RUN The Norman Tamanaha Memorial 15K Run starts at 6 a.m. Aug. 17 in Waikiki, winds through Kahala and Diamond Head Road and back to Kalakaua Avenue. Call 223-2622.

* eBAY TIPS The U.S. Postal Service presents a class for small-business people, “Selling on eBay,” from 5 to 8 p.m. Aug. 20 in Kopiko 127 and 128 at Kapiolani Community College. Fee is $7, or $10 at the door. Call 734-9256.


* CHILDREN’S COUNCIL The East Honolulu Community Children’s Council meets at 5 p.m. Aug. 20 in the Aina Haina Elementary School media room. All parents of children with special needs are welcome. Call 428-1738.

* BOOK SALE Kaimuki Library has a “monstrously large” book sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 30, along with CDs. records, DVDs, videos and audio books. Call 733-8425.

* KARATE BENEFIT A gala fundraiser for Lee Donohue’s Kick Start Karate is set for 4 to 8 p.m. Aug. 31 at the Bayer Estate in Aina Haina. Donation is $150. Call 286-8831.
