Below are highlights of what’s happening in the East Oahu community in the next few weeks.

* MAUNALUA FIELD DAYS Maunalua Makai Watch monitors fish and algae at the bay with the Nature Conservancy from 1 to 3 p.m. July 1, and 9 to 11 a.m. July 11 and 16. Call 295-9745.

* BLOOD DRIVES The Blood Bank has donor drives from 3 to 7 p.m. July 2 and 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. July 13 at Hawaii Kai Towne Center; and 7 to 11 a.m. July 27 at Kahala Mall. Call 845-9966.

* RONALD MCDONALD Ronald McDonald visits Kaimuki Library at 10:30 a.m. July 3 for an interactive show with music, magic and games . Call 733-8422.

* DOG DAY Koko Marina Center hosts a Dog Day Afternoon from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 5 in the courtyard with treats, wag bags, exhibits, fashion shows and more.

* ANIMAL BENEFIT Hawaii Animal Sanctuary has an Italian Night gala from 6:30 to 11 p.m. July 5 at “The Tunnels,” 221 Iliaina St. in Kailua, featuring an Italian buffet, music, fireworks, a tunnel tour and silent auction. Tickets cost $30. Call 395-0023.

* ISRAELI DANCE Israeli Circle Dancing classes are at 1 p.m. July 6 in Ala Wai ballroom. Fee is $5 per class, followed by open dancing. Call 373-2561.

* VEGAN TALK Dr. William Harris discusses “Optimizing your Vegan Diet for Better Health” at 7 p.m. July 8 at Ala Wai clubhouse. Call Vegetarian Society at 944-8344.

* NEIGHBORS Area neighborhood boards meeting at 7 p.m. this month include: Palolo on July 9 in Palolo Elementary School cafeteria; Diamond Head-Kapahulu-St. Louis Heights July 10 at Ala Wai clubhouse; Kaimuki July 16 in Liliuokalani Elementary School cafeteria; Waialae-Kahala July 17 at Wesley United Methodist Church; and Hawaii Kai July 29 in Hahaione Elementary School cafeteria. * T-SHIRT DESIGN Teens learn to design T-shirts in a workshop at 2 p.m. July 9 at Kaimuki Library. Participants should bring their own shirts. Call 733-8422.

* CARTOON ART Local nemu*nemu webcomic cartoonists Audra Furuichi and Scott Yoshinaga are featured artists at 2 p.m. July 13 at Kaimuki Library. Call 733-8422.

* CHILDREN’S COUNCIL The East Honolulu Community Children’s Council meets at 5 p.m. July 16 in the Aina Haina Elementary School media room. All parents of children with special needs are welcome. Call 428-1738.

* KALANI REUNION Kalani High School celebrates its 50th anniversary from 5 to 10 p.m. July 19 at the Marriott Waikiki hotel. Call 377-7744, ext. 229.

* VOLKSMARCH The Menehune Marchers Volksport Club has a free 5K or 10K volks-march (walk) Aug. 3 at Koko Head District Park. Call 395-9724.
