Below are highlights of what’s happening in the East Oahu community in the next few weeks.

* SENIOR PANCAKES Koko Head Senior Club members and guests enjoy a pancake breakfast at 10 a.m. May 7 at Kuapa Isle Clubhouse, including bacon, ham, eggs and drinks. Donation is $6. * JAPAN DAY Kalani High School students and three other schools participate in Japan Day activities from 9:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. May 7 at Hawaii Tokai International College, 2241 Kapiolani Blvd. Kenny Endo Taiko Ensemble will kick of the program. Call 524-4450.

* HANAUMA TALKS Hanauma Bay Education Program has free lectures at 6:30 p.m. each Thursday in May at the park theater. The May 8 topic is “Hawaii Surf Research and Summer Forecasting” with NOAA oceanographer Pat Caldwell. Call 397-5840.

* NEIGHBORS Area neighborhood boards meeting at 7 p.m. this month include: Diamond Head-Kapahulu-St. Louis Heights May 8 at the Ala Wai Clubhouse; Palolo May 14 in the Palolo Elementary School cafeteria; Waialae-Kahala May 15 at Wesley United Methodist Church; Kaimuki May 21 in the Liliuokalani Elementary School cafeteria; and Hawaii Kai May 27 in the Hahaione Elementary School cafeteria. * LIHOLIHO LUAU Liholiho Elementary School presents its May Day Festival & Luau from 4 to 7 p.m. May 9 at 3430 Maunaloa Ave. Troy Fernandez and his daughters headline the entertainment, and tickets range from $16 to $24 for a sit-down meal or take-out Hawaiian food. Proceeds go to the school’s new foundation. Call 733-4850.

* MAUI’S KITE Honolulu Theatre for Youth presents Maui’s Kite: Another Tale of Old Hawaii at 10:30 a.m. May 10 at Hawaii Kai Library (397-5833).

* RELAXATION Calvary by the Sea Lutheran Church offers “Oasis of Awakening: Relaxing into Divine Love"at 7 p.m. each Monday at the church, featuring seaside dances, silent meditation, prayer and stories. Call 377-5477.

* ECONOMY Small Business Hawaii convenes a Hawaii economic summit from 11 a.m.to 1:30 p.m. May 13 at the Kahala Hotel, featuring local economics experts,state Sen. Sam Slom and Fox News economic analyst John Rutledge. Lunch and program reservations are $50. Call Darlyn at 396-1724.

* VEGGIE SCHOOL LUNCH Chef John Cadman presents a lecture/demo on “A Successful Vegetarian School Lunch Program: One Man’s Account"at 7 p.m. May 13 at the Ala Wai Golf Course Clubhouse, sponsored by the Vegetarian Society of Hawaii. Call 944-8344.

* NEWCOMERS Honolulu Newcomers Club hosts a Welcome Aloha Coffee at 10 a.m. May 15 and a luncheon at 11:30 a.m. May 22. Call 591-7600.

* MUSICAL Diamond Head Theatre presents The Producers with Dennis Proulx and Don Nahaku, running May 16-June 1. Tickets cost $42 to $12. Call 733-0274.

* PET THERAPY Tails of Aloha sponsors a seminar from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.May 17 in the Kaiser High School library on how to establish a program of raising therapy dogs. * KAYAK RACE The annual Epic Kayaks Molokai World Championship race from Molokai to Maunalua Bay is set for May 18, with finishers expected in the bay around 12:30 p.m.
