* YMCA DAY The KaimukiWaialae YMCA hosts a Community Day along with other Oahu YMCA branches from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 5. Planned are free entertainment, games, activities and information booths showing what the facility can offer area families. The Y is located at 4835 Kilauea Ave. Call 737-5544.
* BLOOD DRIVES The Hawaii Blood Bank conducts donor drives from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Jan. 13 at Hawaii Kai Towne Center; from 7 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Jan. 15 at Red Cross headquarters, 4155 Diamond Head Road; and from 7 to 11 a.m. Jan. 27 at Kahala Mall (near Macy’s men’s department). Call 845-9966.
* HANAUMA BAY The Hanauma Bay Education Program presents a free program on Hawaii’s Undersea Research Lab at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 10. Call 397-5840.
* NEWCOMERS Honolulu Newcomers Club hosts a Welcome Aloha Coffee at 10 a.m. Jan. 10 and a monthly luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Jan. 17. Call 591-7600.
* GOLF Volunteers are needed Jan. 7-13 at the 10th annual Sony Open at Waialae Country Club to help as course marshals, caddies, drivers, shotlink laser operators and at the admission desk for the Dream Cup Pro-Am and the tournament itself. Parking shuttles are planned from Hunakai Park, and more parking is available Jan. 10-13 at Kahala Community Park. * NEIGHBORS Area neighborhood boards meeting at 7 p.m. this month include: Diamond Head-Kapahulu-St. Louis Heights, Jan. 10 at the Ala Wai Clubhouse; Kaimuki, Jan. 16 in the Liliuokalani Elementary School cafeteria; Waialae-Kahala, Jan. 17 at Wesley United Methodist Church; and Hawaii Kai, Jan. 29 in the Hahaione Elementary School cafeteria. * HIKES The Hawaiian Trail & Mountain Club leads two hikes in East Oahu this month: a 6-mile, intermediate hike at 8 a.m. Jan. 13 to Mt. Olympus (St. Louis Heights ridge) and a 2-mile, advanced hike to Makapuu at 8 a.m. Jan. 19. Go to www.htmclub.org
* ART CLASSES My First Art Class will offer instruction (with parent participation) Jan. 22 to March 11 at Holy Nativity Church for children ages 18 months to 5 years old. Fee is $90 including materials and a class T-shirt. Free trial classes are set for Jan. 15. Call Renee Ramsey at 261-6169.
* FINANCIAL AID NIGHT Pacific Financial Aid Association hosts college workshops at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 16 in the Kaimuki High School library and 7 p.m. Jan. 24 in the Kalani High School cafeteria. Call 591-2708.
* EMOTIONAL EATING Kaiser Permanente presents the class “Overcoming Emotional Eating” at 10:30 a.m. Jan. 24 at Kahala Nui Senior Living as part of Kaiser’s Senior Summit series. Call 432-2235.
* MANAGING MONEY Kaiser Permanente conducts a class in “Better Money Management” at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 29 at its Hawaii Kai clinic. Fee is $15 for non-members. Call 432-2270.
* MUSIC Kona Brewing Co. Pub in Koko Marina Center has live music Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 6 to 8 p.m. Call 394-5662.
* YOGA Inner Fire Hawaii offers Kundalini and Hatha yoga classes at 6 p.m. each Tuesday in Portlock. Fee is $10 per class. Call 255-9839.
* MARKETS The KCC Farmers Market is open from 7:30 to 11 a.m. every Saturday at the college (848-2074). The People’s Open Market is open from 6:30 to 7:30 a.m. Wednesdays at Jarrett Middle School and from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturdays and the Hawaii Kai Park-n-Ride (522-7088).
