Below are highlights of what’s happening in the East Oahu community in the next few weeks.

* FINANCE TALK Kahala Nui presents “How to Seek Financial Help” at 10:30 a.m. Nov. 19 in the Diamond Head Room for residents and the public. For reservations, call 281-7200.

* NEIGHBORS Area neighborhood boards meet at 7 p.m. on the following dates: Kaimuki on Nov. 21 at Liliuokalani Elementary School; Hawaii Kai on Nov. 27 at Hahaione Elementary School; Kuliouou-Kalani Iki on Dec. 6 at Aina Haina Library; and Palolo on Dec. 12 in the Palolo Elementary School cafeteria; Call 527-5749.


* HOLIDAY CLOSURES All public libraries and schools are closed Nov. 22 for Thanksgiving. Schools reopen on Nov. 26.

* HAWAII KAI PARADE Hawaii Kai’s annual Keiki Kalikimaka Parade begins at 10 a.m. Nov. 24 at Kamiloiki Park and ends at Koko Marina Center with a holiday celebration. Call 395-3384.

* TREE ORDERS Orders are due by Nov. 26 for sheared Douglas fir trees from Kaiser High School ($65 to $75), with proceeds going to Project Grad. Pick up is Dec. 1. For order forms, go to www.kaiserprojectgrad.org or call 394-1200.

* TEEN PAGEANT The Miss Hawaii Jr. Teen America 2008 Pageant is booked for Nov. 28 at Mamiya Theatre. Call 387-6560.

* BLOOD DRIVES The Hawaii Blood Bank conducts donor drives from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 29 at Chaminade University, and from 7 a.m. to noon Dec. 9 at Hawaii Kai Towne Center. Call 845-9966.

* HANAUMA TALKS UH Sea Grant students present free lectures at 6:30 p.m. Thursdays in the Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve theater. Topics Nov. 29 are Hawaiian reef fishes and invertebrates, effects of storms on air-sea exchange in Kaneohe Bay and phosphorus bioavailability at Heeia Fishpond. Dec. 6 offers a screening of the BBC film Shallow Seas. Call 397-5840.

* MUSICAL Diamond Head Theatre presents Meet Me in St. Louis from Nov. 30 to Dec. 16. For tickets, call 733-0274.

* CRAFT FAIR Aliiolani Elementary School in Kaimuki hosts a Season’s Best Craft & Gift Fair from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Dec. 1. Call 683-6064.

* LAKOTA ART Jim and Jerry Yellowhawk of Cheyenne River Reservation in South Dakota share their art during a reception from 1 to 4 p.m. Dec. 1 at Native Winds Gift Gallery & Craft Supply. Call 734-8018.

* WARTIME NEWSREELS A special screening of Hawaii during World War II: The Movies and the Music of the 1940s is planned for 7 p.m. Dec. 5 at a Hawaii Kai home. Admission is $10. Call 395-0674 for location and reservations.

* MUSIC Kona Brewing Co. Pub in Koko Marina Center has live music Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 6 to 8 p.m. Call 394-5662.

* HARMONY Sounds of Aloha auditions men’s voices for four-part harmony at 7 p.m. each Thursday at the Ala Wai Clubhouse. Singers are especially wanted for their Christmas show. Call 262-SONG.

* MARKETS The KCC Farmers Market is open from 7:30 to 11 a.m. every Saturday at the college (848-2074). The People’s Open Market is open from 6:30 to 7:30 a.m. Wednesdays at Jarrett Middle School and from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturdays and the Hawaii Kai Park-n-Ride (522-7088).
