Below are highlights of what’s happening in the East Oahu community in the next few weeks.

* HANAUMA TALKS Hanauma Bay Education Center presents free lectures about coral reefs at 6:30 p.m. Thursdays in the park theater: July 5 on the ecological impact of Carijoa riisei; July 12 on coral spawning, July 19 on reef monitoring; and July 26 on corals and microorganisms. Call 397-5840.

* NEIGHBORS Area neighborhood boards meet at 7 p.m. on the following dates: KuliououKalani Iki, July 5 at Aina Haina Library; Palolo Neighborhood Board, July 11 in the Palolo Elementary School cafeteria; Diamond Head-Kapahulu-St. Louis Heights board, July 12 at the Ala Wai clubhouse. * REMODELING Koko Marina Center presents tips for Kitchen Bath & Remodeling from 3 to 6 p.m. July 8 along outdoor sales by merchants. Call 395-4737.

* BLOOD DRIVES The Hawaii Blood Bank conducts donor drives from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. July 8 at Hawaii Kai Towne Center; from 7 to 11 a.m. July 22 at Kahala Mall near Macy’s men’s department; and from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. July 30 at Kapiolani Community College parking lots. Call 845-9966.

* RAW FOOD Dr. William Harris discusses “The Raw Food Diet” at 7 p.m. July 10 at the Ala Wai clubhouse, sponsored by the Vegetarian Society of Hawaii. The meeting is free to the public, and refreshments will be served. Call 944-8344.

* NEWCOMERS The Honolulu Newcomers Club hosts a Welcome Coffee at 10 a.m. July 11 and its monthly luncheon at 11:30 a.m. July 19. Call 591-7600.

* MUSICAL Diamond Head Theatre presents Lee Cataluna’s play You Somebody from July 12 to 29. Tickets range from $12 to $42. Call 733-0274.

* SAFE DRIVING The AARP Driver Safety Program is offered from 8 a.m. to noon July 14 and 21 at Kaiser’s Hawaii Kai Clinic. Fee is $10. Call 432-2260.

* ORCHIDS The Kaimuki Orchid Society hosts its annual orchid show and plant sale from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. July 21 and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 22 at St. Patrick’s School. Call 398-2811.

* SENIOR ENERGY Kaiser Permanente presents a free Senior Summit lecture on “The Art of Energy: Mind over Matter” at 10:30 a.m. July 26 at Kahala Nui’s Diamond Head Room. Call 432-2235 to register.

* HANAUMA FUN Hanauma Bay Education Center presents marks 40 years of stewardship with fun family events from 6 to 9 p.m. July 28 and Aug. 11 at the nature preserve. The July 28 theme is “Hawaiian Reefs - No Place Like Home; Aug. 11 is “Footprints in the Sand: Remembering Hanauma.” Call 397-5840.


* MUSIC Kona Brewing Co. Pub in Koko Marina Center has live music at 7 p.m. Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, and Sundays from 6 to 8 p.m. (guests to be announced). Call 394-5662.

* HULA Halau Kawaihoa holds free classes in competitive hula from 7 to 9 p.m. each Wednesday at Hahaione Elementary School. New, serious students are welcome. Call 292-2738.

* YOGA Inner Fire Hawaii offers Kundalini and Hatha yoga classes at 6 p.m. each Tuesday in Portlock. Fee is $10 per class. Call 255-9839.

* VOLUNTEERS The Friends of Hanauma Bay sponsor a cleanup of the beach, park and Kalanianaole Highway from Keahole Street to Blow Hole from 8 to 11 a.m. July 15. Meet near the visitor’s center where work assignments, gloves and supplies will be provided. Bring a proof of residency for parking. Call 395-1217.
