* BOARDS Area neighborhood boards meet at 7 p.m. on the following dates: Kaimuki, April 18 at Liliuokalani Elementary School; Waialae-Kahala, April 19 at Wesley United Methodist Church; Hawaii Kai, April 24 at Hahaione Elementary School; KuliououKalani Iki, May 3 at Aina Haina Library; Palolo Neighborhood Board, May 9 in the Palolo Elementary School cafeteria; and Diamond Head-Kapahulu-St. Louis Heights board, May 10 at the Ala Wai Golf Course clubhouse. * HIGHRISE The city Planning Commission conducts a public hearing at 1:30 p.m. April 18 on 21st Century Homes’ request to change zoning on Hawaii Kai Drive to allow an apartment building to be 90 feet high. The hearing is in the City Hall Annex on South King Street. Call 523-4430.

* NEWCOMERS The Honolulu Newcomers Club holds its monthly luncheon at 11:30 a.m. April 19. Call 396-2628.

* EARTH DAY Chaminade University’s Gender and Environmental studies programs co-sponsor a free talk on “Global Warming and Buddhism"at 7 p.m. April 19 in the Ching Conference Center, second floor of Eiben Hall. Call 735-4822.

* WHALE TALK Hanauma Bay Education Center presents a free lecture at 6:30 p.m. April 19 on humpback whales and underwater sounds, with Alison Stimpert. The April 26 topic is spinner dolphin genetics. Call 397-5840.

* BAY CLEANUP Volunteers meet at 8:30 a.m. April 21 at the Hanauma Bay Visitors Center in order to clean the park and surrounding areas. Call 395-1217.

* FOOD DRIVE Koko Marina is an area host for the annual Hawaii Foodbank’s statewide drive with activities and promotions planned from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 21 at the center, including a can sculpture contest starting at 10 a.m. and a concert by Imua at 1 p.m. Call 395-4737.

* LUAU The Kaiser High School Alumni Association throws a luau for all alumni, friends and Cougar supporters from 5:30 to 10 p.m. April 21 in the Kaiser cafeteria. Tickets are $40. Call 394-2432.

* OPERETTA Chaminade University presents the comic operetta The Pirates of Penzance through April 22 in Mamiya Theater. Curtain is at 7:30 p.m. April 20 and 21, and 4 p.m. April 22. Tickets are $12 and $7. Call 735-4725.
