Below are highlights of what’s happening in the East Oahu community in the next few weeks.

* GLASS ART Accents Gallery hosts its monthly Wine, Cheese & Chocolate party from 5 to 7 p.m. April 4 at 3520 Waialae Ave. to showcase its glass jewelry and stemware, and also paintings by Mapuana Schneider and Mahealani Diego. Call 737-8018.

* HANAUMA Aran Mooney, research student at the Hawaii Institute of Marine Biology, talks at 6:30 p.m. April 5 about white-beaked dolphins at Hanauma Bay Education Center. Additional free lectures are on spinner dolphins at night (April 12), humpback whales and sound (April 19) and spinner dolphin genetics (April 26). Call 397-5840.


* BOARDS Area neighborhood boards meet at 7 p.m. this month on the following dates: Kuliouou-Kalani Iki board, April 5 at Aina Haina Library; Diamond Head-Kapahulu-St. Louis Heights, April 12 at Ala Wai Clubhouse; Palolo, April 11 at Palolo Elementary School; WaialaeKahala, April 19 at Wesley United Methodist Church; Kaimuki, April 18 at Liliuokalani Elementary School; and Hawaii Kai, April 24 at Hahaione Elementary School.

* HIKE Hawaiian Trail & Mountain Club leads a 4-mile, intermediate ridge hike to Wiliwilinui in Waialae at 8 a.m. April 7. Go to http://htmclub.org

* EGG HUNT Koko Head Park Complex sponsors an Easter Egg Hunt April 7, with games at 9 a.m. and the hunt at 10 at Koko Head District Park. Activities and goodie bags also are planned. Call 395-3407.

* BUNNY PHOTOS Market City Shopping Center hosts an Easter celebration from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.April 7 with free balloons, candy eggs and merchant coupons, as well as photos with the Easter bunny for a fee. Call 734-0282.

* MUSICAL Diamond Head Theatre presents the musical comedy Sweet Charity, directed by Andrew Sakaguchi, now through April 8. For tickets, call 733-0274.

* BLOOD Hawaii Blood Bank conducts donor drives from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. April 8 at the Hawaii Kai Towne Center; 7 to 11 a.m. April 15 at Kahala Mall (near Macy’s Men’s Department). Call 845-9966.


* COMEDY The Vegetarian Society presents a free show by comedian Dan Pirara (who created the Bizarro cartoon) at 7 p.m. April 10 at the Ala Wai Clubhouse. Call 944-8344.

* ECONOMY State Rep. Lyla Berg sponsors a public forum, “Toward a Sustainable Economy,” at 7 p.m. April 11 in the Kahala Elementary School cafeteria. Call 586-6510.

* NEWCOMERS Honolulu Newcomers Club holds a Welcome Coffee at 10 a.m. April 12 and its monthly luncheon at 11:30 a.m. April 19. Call 396-2628.

* FOLK DANCE Grupo Folklorico Sabor de Mexico marks Cinco de Mayo with a free show at 6 p.m. April 13 at Kahala Mall.

* AGING Kahala Nui Senior Living hosts a free Kaiser “senior summit” talk at 10:30 a.m. April 26 on effective strategies for the golden years. Call 432-2235.

* CONCERT The Hawaii Youth Symphony’s String Program presents its Aloha Concert at 2 p.m April 29 in Kaimuki High School auditorium. Call 941-9706.

* TEST PREP Verbal & Math Enrichment Program offers a free SAT-Prep workshop at 6:30 p.m. May 1 in the Kaiser High School library. Call 261-6666.

* ART Moku Ola Hawaiian Healing Center at Koko Marina hosts an exhibit by 15 Hawaiian printmakers through May. Call 394-6658.

* HIGHRISE The city Planning Commission conducts a public hearing at 1:30 p.m. April 18 on 21st Century Homes’ request to change zoning on Hawaii Kai Drive to allow an apartment building to be 90 feet high. The hearing is in the City Hall Annex on South King Street. Call 523-4430.


* CRATER Tickets are on sale now for the second annual Diamond Head Crater Celebration with Earth Wind and Fire - and much more - on May 19. Call 1-877-750-4400.
