Below are highlights of what’s happening in the East Oahu community in the next few weeks.

* The Adult Literacy Program holds a volunteer tutor orientation at 6 p.m. June 6 at Barnes & Noble Kahala Mall. Call 537-6706.

* Classes in Kundalini and Hatha yoga are offered at 6 p.m. Tuesdays in Hawaii Kai. Fee is $10 per class. Call 255-9839.

* Wayne and Elena offer music and hula from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays at the Plumeria Beach House at The Kahala. Call 778-2945.

* The Vegetarian Society presents a lecture by Patrick McDonnell at 7 p.m. June 7 at the Ala Wai Clubhouse. Topic is “The Creator of Mutts Talks about Becoming Vegetarian.” The nationally syndicated comic strip author advocates animal protection. Call 722-2557.


* Kona Brewing Co. in Koko Marina Center has live music at 7 p.m. Wednesdays with Owana Salazar (June 7), Aaron Sala (June 14 and 28), and East Side Players (June 21), Thursdays by Weldon Kekauoha and Friends; Fridays by Naluhoe (June 16, 23 and 30) and Weldon Kekauoha (June 9); Saturdays by Jon Osorio and Stephen Brown (June 10 and 24), Naluhoe (June 17); and Sundays from 6 to 8 p.m. by Ledward Kaapana. * Hanauma Bay Education Center presents a free lecture at 6:30 p.m. June 8 in the park theater. Cody Hooven of the Marine Turtle Research Program will discuss “Enjoying and Helping Hawaiian Sea Turtles.” Call 397-5840.

* The Oahu Invasive Species Committee leads a hike on Mauumae Trail near Palolo from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. June 10. Meet at Church of the Crossroads. Goal is to get rid of the Himalayan blackberry there. Call 292-6769.

* The Pacific Bonsai Club has its annual plant sale from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. June 11 at Kilauea Recreation Center. Call 737-7156.


* Area blood drives are set for June 11 at Hawaii Kai Towne Center; June 22 at KCC, parking lot E; and June 27 at Kaimuki Municipal Parking Lot. Call 845-9966.

* The Arc in Hawaii plans a benefit garage sale from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 17 at its Honolulu center, 3989 Diamond Head Road. The Arc assists people with developmental disabilities. Call 737-7995.
