Following the opening of new clinics this summer, East Oahu residents will have two more sources of professional help when they become ill or have other medical needs.

Looking to expand for several years in the area, Queen’s Medical Center dedicated Hawaii Kai’s largest health clinic - all 11,000 square feet of it - June 19 at Hawaii Kai Shopping Center. The new building also doubles the staff of its smaller clinic, that has been operating elsewhere at the center since the mid 1980s. A key partner is Diagnostic Laboratory Services Inc. which will conduct services on site.

The ambulatory outpatient clinic is located near Safeway and Longs and is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays, and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays. The physicians accept most major health insurance plans.

They are Judy Okamura MD (pediatrics/internal medicine), Christopher Brace DO (geriatrics/senior care), Jenny Uramoto MD (gynecology), Kristine Uramoto MD (rheumatology), Aileen Denny MD (breast oncology), Whitney Limm MD (surgeon), Robb Ohtani MD (obstetrics/gynecology), Nathalie Sowers DPM (podiatry), Ian Oyama MD (urogynecology) and Denny Bales MD (cardiology).

“The new center will provide much-needed services and convenience for the people of Hawaii Kai,” said president and CEO Art Ushijima earlier, “and we look forward to building stronger ties with the community for years to come.”

For more information, call 396-6675. A former Queen’s emergency room physician, Robert Ruggieri, owns and operates Kahala Urgent Care, which is now open at 4218 Waialae Ave., mauka of Kahala Mall and next to the Shell service station.

“Kahala Urgent Care will help fill a void for residents and employees on Oahu needing same-day care for minor emergencies,” Ruggieri said.“Patients will benefit from having easier access to timely, affordable medical care at a reasonable price.”

The clinic is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. It accepts most insurance plans, and appointments are not necessary. The medical staff is all trained and experienced in ER care, he said, and has the latest technology, such as digital X-rays, electronic medical records, and lab services.
