The Kims duke it out in a
big, fun way
clown gig was no exception, and at Xtreme Fun, family remains essential. Mom is president; daughter Jamie, now 19 and a BYU-Provo student, helps during school breaks; son Randell, fluent in Japanese after a two-year mission to Japan, is the company’s Japanese group specialist; Randell’s new bride, Kylee, is now an employee; and not to be left out are daughter Janzell and husband Ben, who live on the Mainland.
“They come on vacation, and we make them work,” Claire notes with a laugh.
Randell, who is 22 and may one day take over the operation, says he’s amazed at the company’s growth, which started with “just me and my dad and all my cousins going out and setting them up.” The company now handles 15 to 20 jumper rentals and three or four large events per week. Last weekend they were at Flavors of Honolulu, a Heart Camp for children and a Young Bros. company party. Randell says, “Most of our workers I grew up with here in Wahiawa, we went to elementary together. It’s just amazing ... how many people came together to make it what it is now.”
The Kims attribute their success to their employees, taking care of things like liability insurance and workers’ compensation, and being easy to work with.
“Things (will) go wrong, so we make sure that it’s taken care of and everyone’s satisfied in the end,” says Delbert. “We like to pride ourselves on being turnkey - you contract us and don’t worry about it. We always show up.”
The Kims’ popularity also compels them to take the show on the road.
“We even take our stuff to Maui,” Delbert says. “We do Taste of Lahaina, we go to a couple school fairs, and we ship everything. We take all the employees, fly them over, and it’s a lot of fun. And they love it because they don’t have that on Maui so once a year they get us.”
