Hawaii’s Operation: Military Kids will host a weekend-long family camp at YMCA Camp Erdman Nov. 20-22 for all branches and their family members who have been, currently are or will shortly be affected by a deployment.
The camp aims to help families come together, enjoy themselves and better understand one another in the wake of or preceding deployment.
“We just want to give these families a chance to reconnect,” said Claire M. Nakatsuka, extension educator with the University of Hawaii at Manoa and program coordinator.
Admission is $20 per person and activities are open to all military and family members ages 3 and up. Younger keiki are welcome, but must be attended by an adult at all times. Family camp activities will include archery, swimming, crafts, kayaking, hiking, a ropes course, climbing wall, campfires, keiki-only groups, an OMK speak-out session and other special events. Volunteers also are welcome to sign up and help out.
Applications for the camp are available at http://www.ctahr.hawaii.edu/4h/omk/education.htm
