According to recycling drive coordinator Andy Yamaguchi, the Kailua Project Grad 2007 gang collected $1,182 in cans and bottles at its Sept. 3 drive and donated $350 of that to the Red Cross for Hurricane Katrina relief ... Islander financial columnist Marc Langevin of Kailua recently led a Hawaii contingent on humanitarian duty to the kingdom of Tonga, where medical officers in the Marine Reserves treated patients in the remote northern island group of Va’vau, and others trained Tongan Marines on Tongatapu. Marc also managed to dine with the U.S. Ambassador and have layovers in Fiji and Sydney. He’s the operations officer of 4th Force Recon Co. at the Kaneohe Marine base. “It’s nice to do some constructive work for a change,” he says, “especially after being in Iraq” ...

Bruddah Sam Langi says his nose is getting bigger - since the rest of him is getting small. Kaneohe’s big personality with the big heart, Sam has lost 100 pounds so far in his personal quest for better health. Sam was emcee at the recent Kava Festival at UH, coordinated by Kahaluu ‘awa/kava farmer and advocate Jonathan Yee ...
