In fact, the LJA headmaster has calculated that if all 750 of his students went to Honolulu schools for one year, they would cover 5.5 million miles and consume 187,000 gallons of gas. Plus, the two-hour round trip adds up to plenty more school time than any child should have to bear ...

B.K. Cannon, 16 of Kailua, is in the cast of Flight 29 Down, the Discovery Channel’s award-winning series that has just completed filming its third season here. She also won the lead role in a yet-to-be released indie feature film produced in L.A. These early career breaks are not surprising. After all, B.K. once took first place at a Castle High speech festival and won a drama award while attending Le Jardin Academy, where she was in five school plays ... Central Pacific Bank has hired Maureen Lichter of Kailua as its vice president and manager of product management. Maureen’s been in the business for 27 years and also does volunteer marketing for the Hawaii Centers for Independent Living ... Promoting peaceful living is Kathy Croze of Lanikai. She’s membership chair for Friendship Force International, promoter of world peace through exchange visits with members from other countries. The local chapter is seeking new recruits to host guests from Germany in their Hawaii homes next September (263-8249) ...

Kahaluu freshman Shyla LeVasseur made the fall semester dean’s list at the University of Northern Colorado, which comes with a “Next Scholars” reception by the dean ... Kaneohe’s Hoku Zuttermeister has played with dozens of stars over the years, but now offers his own debut CD, ‘Aina Kupuna, being released this month by Kaleiola Records. A Castle High graduate, Hoku also is playing March 12, 19 and 26 at Chai’s Island Bistro with Jerry Santos and Barry Kimokeo ... Kailua’s Kay Fujimoto Ono received the Distinguished Service Award at the Western Business and Information Technology Educators Conference last month in Montana. A business tech professor at Leeward Community College, Kay is active in WBITE. The group’s Newsletter Recognition Award went to WCC professors Emi Troeger and Ellen Nagaue and instructor Karen Quimoyog
