Castle High graduates Kyle Kanaeholo (infielder) and Jeff Syrop (pitcher) are both playing on the Hawaii Island Movers summer team, which is currently on a month-long road trip in Japan ... William is project manager for M & E Pacific Engineering, the firm that’s putting the mile-long pipe in the canal ... Faced with the possible closure of their performing arts studio in Aikahi (see story on this page), Judie and Derrick Lee also are dealing with weather-related issues at home. They moved to Kualoa this spring, during the floods ... Raymond Karelitz (see story on page 4) has published so many books on how to take SAT tests, that he needs a whole house to store them. The instructor has moved to Kaneohe, but his books are still in a Kailua cottage next to his mom’s place. “She likes it because I visit her, too,” Ray says ... Christopher Kobayashi of Kaneohe has won the $1,500 Bill Gee and Monte Ito Scholarship Award for “outstanding achievements and/or potential in journalism and a sincere appreciation of golf.” Chris is a journalism and English major at the University of Northern Colorado and is an avid golfer, making all-OIA second team honors in two seasons.

Speaking of sports, Kenneth Ching of Hauula has “czeched in” with an update on grandson Tony Ching, a UH volleyball All-American now with the pro team Danzas Ostrava, which won the Czech Republic title.
