Veteran comedian, impressionist and actor Billy Sage can pop up where you least expect him, but next Tuesday you can catch him for sure in Hale Akoakoa 101 at WCC doing a show about Ka’a'awa (see calendar). Not to confuse anyone, but a “Sage workshop” (no relation) is going on that same night next door in Hale Akoakoa 105 ... The Moonlight Storytellers, meanwhile, would really like to find a home for their talents - “a place to practice among friendly and supportive peers.” One of their longtime tale tellers is Vicky Dworkin of Kailua. Got space? Call Yona Chock at 683-5262 ... Kailua’s John Penebacker (“Fabulous Five” and National Guard colonel) has retired after 18 years as special assistant to the State Librarian ... Oops. A typo turned Kailua videographer Gene Kois (right) into Gene Lois (wrong) in the Jan. 11 Waha Nui.

Gene works with the Hula Preservation Society, which is based in Kaneohe (right) but not on the WCC campus ... Navy JROTC cadet Richardson Sunaga earned Top Male Athlete at the statewide JROTC Adventure Training Test at Schofield Barracks last month. Richardson is team commander of Kalaheo’s Navy unit, which also took first in the 1800 meter swim relay, the PFT (track events) competition and the 10-mile Kolekole Pass run ... In another school triumph, Kalaheo’s Jessica Pleasanton, and Matt McDaniel and Tad Shields (doubles), won gold medals at the state Special Olympics Bowling Meet last month. Coach is Jodie McGough ... Planned Parenthood premiered a film tribute by Kaneohe’s Tom Coffman last Friday at its fundraiser in Royal Hawaiian Hotel’s Monarch Room. Tom’s work honors the 1970 Hawaii Legislature, Gov. John Burns and Sen. Vince Yano in making pro-choice law here ahead of Roe v. Wade ... Still alive and kicking: Buzz’s Original Steak House in Lanikai. Owner Bobbie Lou Schneider quickly put rumors to rest after the buzz about Buzz’s Steak & Lobster in Waikiki. That one closed Jan. 5 to make way for the area’s redevelopment project ... Speaking of seafood, Oceanic Institute’s Bruce Anderson hosted a meeting of his colleagues on the National Aquaculture Task Force last weekend, where they hammered out ideas to reduce “negative environmental effects” of fish farming ... Kaaawa’s Deborah Micek, a personal/business success coach, has her say with other experts Friday during “Your Business’ Best Asset ... You!” at Mark’s Garage (526-1001) ... Waimanalo artist and healer Ginny Walden plays flamenco and Spanish guitar at 6:30 p.m. Thursdays at Cha Cha Cha Salsaria in Hawaii Kai ... Le Jardin third-graders Mario Kaluhiokalani and Brennan Swindell topped a host of their school-mates by earning perfect scores in the first WordMasters Challenge of the school year. The nationwide program has students in grades 3-8 learn “a set of interesting new words” and use them to complete analogies that sharpen them up both analytically and metaphorically (look it all up!).

Dan Inouye and Dan Akaka for the U.S. Senate Youth Program March 4-11 in Washington, D.C. Jacquelyn already knows her way around the capitol. She’s been there at least once before for the History Day competition ... City Liquor Commissioners recently considered license applications from So Gong Dong Soon Doo Boo Inc. and also from the Duck Butt Corp. ... Kind of ironic that the music lineup at Don Ho‘s Island Grill next month lists deejays and karaoke, but under Hawaiian Entertainment, it says: “No longer being offered” ... St. Ann’s Church and Model Schools does not teach runway fashion. The extra word, says Sister Anne Clare, education director, means that after 12 years of practicing three models of learning, St. Ann’s earned the right to the “model” status from a consortium of like-minded schools
