University of Hawaii-Hilo English professor Mark Panek has penned a biography of Chad Rowan, tracing his sumo career as Akebono through the Waimanalo athlete’s retirement as yokozuna in 2001. They opened a new Jeff Chang Pottery and Fine Crafts shop at the Sheraton Waikiki Nov. 1, right after losing their lease at Windward Mall. Kailua’s Meleanna Meyer collaborated with Kala Hoe, Meala Bishop, Carl Pao and other artists - as well as the students of Hakipuu Learning Center and Samuel Kamakau Charter School - to create a giant mural in the museum lobby ... According to Windward Coalition of Churches’ treasurer Carl Nemoto, the Thanksgiving service at Christ Church Uniting collected nearly $1,000, which will be divided between the Women’s Prison Ministry and Hurricane Katrina relief ...
