Castle High grad and reigning Olympic decathlon champion Bryan Clay will add the honorable title of 2011 Visa Humanitarian of the Year Saturday at USA Track & Field’s annual meeting in St. Louis, Mo. The award lauds outstanding athletes’ achievements outside of their sport, and Bryan has shown his dedication to helping youths through clinics, personal talks and his foundation that’s “building champions and changing lives.” He recently sponsored a 5K run in his community of Glendora, Calif., to support his mission and collect food and clothes for underprivileged families ...

Kailua’s Reece Goo aims to collect 5,000 Make-A-Wish letters to take Dec. 9 to the Believe Campaign at Macy’s, which will donate $1 per letter to grant wishes to ailing children. Reece was once a MAW recipient, making a trip to DisneyWorld after brain tumor treatments. “I want other kids to have just as much fun as I did,” he says.
