Musicians are uniting for another benefit concert for Janell and Darren Araki of Kaneohe. The show is from 5 to 10 p.m. Sunday at Rumours, and tickets are $20 (233-9634). Janell, owner of Precision Sound - a backbone for island music gigs - has a rare, incurable disease, calciphylaxis, and her husband is recovering from a stroke, so the bills keep mounting.
There’s a raffle, silent auction and plenty of good music from Holunape, Pali, A Touch of Gold, The Gregg Hammer Band and Mel Fausto and the Elements. Emcees are Mento Mele and Tony Silva ... Gardens are sprouting everywhere, one of them in Ahuimanu Elementary’s courtyard. Teacher Emily Vergara says keiki and staff got help from Kahaluu Lions Club (mulch) and technical assistance from the cemetery next door. Maintenance man Ben Bugeron and his Valley of the Temples crew sure know their dirt. “We made three thank-you baskets for Ben’s crew,” Emily says, “full of snacks and notes from the students.” Ben also invited the kids to visit the temple ...
Kaneohe man John McComas accepted the Organizational Leadership Award from the Association of Asian Pacific Community Health Organizations recently in Washington, D.C. John is CEO of AlohaCare ... Also taking care, William and Amber Aduja helped raise $500 from a recent Lokahi Giving Project “fish-net” campaign, and KHON2 honored them on its Morning Show last week.
