Ahuimanu actress Kalia Medeiros is Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz, now playing at Diamond Head Theatre. She’ll be ripping down that yellow brick road, too, because they added five more shows even before it opened on July 11. The show closes Aug. 3, last I heard (733-0274) ... Speaking of the stage, veteran actor of Broadway, film and TV, Steve Harmon, died July 7, and his ashes were scattered off Lanikai, which has been his home since retiring from show business and real estate. An avid kayaker, Steve, 69, began his career as a child actor on the Broadway stage with the likes of Ethel Merman and Tallulah Bankhead ...
Two young Kaneohe actors, Brianna Pratt and Christa Sonido, and Hally Chaffin of Kailua are in the Saint Louis Center for the Arts production of Rent, playing this Thursday through Sunday at Mamiya Theater. Brianna plays Maureen in the school edition of the award-winning Broadway musical, and Christa and Hally are in the ensemble (550-8457) ... District 51 state House candidate Quentin Kawananakoa is retrofitting a 20-foot trailer as his mobile campaign headquarters. It’s a way to save potential voters’ gas money, he explains. In one scenario, for example, residents will be invited to a coffee hour at the trailer while it’s parked in their neighborhood (Kailua to Waimanalo). “The closer we are, the easier it is for the people to get involved in the process,” Quentin says ...
Punahou School president James Scott presented the coveted John F. Fox Achievement Award to Kaneohe seventh-grader Sarah Tyler last month for her accomplishments in academics, sports and extracurricular activities. (It comes with a partial tuition remission, too).
