The Plight Of Egyptian Christians

Del.icio.usToday’s headlines might read “Be careful what you protest for. It may come back to haunt you.” Egyptians, especially Egyptian Christians, are sadly discovering that their hard-won freedom has a shelf life.
The recent shooting and crushing of 24 unarmed Egyptian Coptic Christians by government force armored vehicles has observers in Western nations concerned. The euphoria of hope and change in January’s revolution preceding subsequent “Arab Spring” revolts may turn out to be what many foreign policy experts predicted: carefully plotted and strategic steps toward the stated goal of the Muslim Brotherhood (MB), “the establishment of a global Islamic State (Caliphate) nation and to implement Shariah Law worldwide.” Same goal as al-Qaida, just different tactics.
The political jabberers don’t discuss this issue because polls keep showing Americans only have the economy on the brain. However, mere months after the successful ousting of former President Hosni Mubarak, America’s “friend,” the Egyptian army, has been involved in torture and brutality. Shariah Law is also rearing its head. Egypt, in recent history more tolerant than most Muslim nations, is allowing the same brutal tactics the Taliban once used in Afghanistan before our American troops kicked them out. Last May, an Egyptian Christian friend visited her parents in Egypt and, while there, went to a nearby beach. Women wearing burqas in the ocean was a deeply disturbing image for her.
Far worse, though, are the hundreds of kidnappings, rapes, forced marriages and Islamic conversion of young Coptic Christian girls age 12 to 17. On Oct. 11, CSPAN2 broadcast live testimony before the CSCE (Helsinki Commission), which monitors human rights from Europe. The reports were chilling. Jean Maher from the Egyptian Human Rights French Office believes these crimes are but one of many tactics used by the Muslim Brotherhood to ultimately wipe out Coptic Christians from Egypt. He says Saudis and other Gulf nations pay $10,000 to $50,000 for kidnapping a Christian girl.
Coptic Christians or “Copts” make up 10 percent of Egypt’s population of 80 million and were introduced to Christianity in 42 A.D. by the apostle Mark in Alexandria. By 300 A.D. most of Egypt was Christian. Today, like the ancient Buddhas that hardliner Muslims destroyed in Iraq, Copts are fair game. Maher reminded that in just eight years the number of Iraqi Christians has decreased by 700,000.
And included in the Muslim Brotherhood’s plan is the U.S., “the great Satan.”
One of their secret documents, titled An Explanatory Memorandum on the General Strategic Goal for the Group in North America, states,“The Ikhwan (MB) must understand that their work in America is a kind of grand Jihad in eliminating and destroying the Western civilization from within and ‘sabotaging’ its miserable house by their hands and the hands of the believers so that it is eliminated and God’s religion is made victorious over all other religions.”
“The Muslim Brotherhood will never change their objective of an Islamic caliphate,” Maher says. “They only change their tactics to please Western ears.” Washington Times Middle East expert Frank Gaffney wrote, “The Obama administration chose the eve of the holiday marking our nation’s birth (July 3) to acknowledge publicly behavior in which it has long been stealthily engaged to the United States’ extreme detriment: Its officials now admit that they are embracing the Muslim Brotherhood ... ” A secret MB five-phase strategy plan reports already succeeding in its infiltration of “various U.S. sectors of Government.”
The fox is in the henhouse and the head rooster’s out campaigning.
Of course, not all Muslims want to kill Christians or enact Shariah Law. Egypt’s minister of finance resigned in protest of last week’s killings, and many Egyptians are publicly rebuking them. But Maher pleaded with President Obama to listen to liberal Muslims in Egypt and to not hand over unrestricted financial aid that isn’t tied to human rights.
I found it disappointing that President Obama’s response to the crisis in Egypt was that Christians should show restraint.
As women, we must fight the gradual infiltration of a religious legal system so evil that in 2003 it allowed 15 Saudi teen girls to burn to death in a school fire because they didn’t have on their head scarves, thus couldn’t be looked at. Our daughters and granddaughters are worth the fight.
