Del.icio.usFor years he has been the likeable guy of the local news who told you why you were lucky to live in Hawaii, whether products did what they claimed to do and, of course, where to eat cheap. Lyle Galderia, who had been a fixture on our televisions for many years, recently left the news business after deciding it was time to challenge himself in other areas.

“I just wanted to do something different. I’ve been at Channel 8 for 10 years, and it’s time to refresh and get a new aspect on life and career.”
Galderia decided to channel his energies in the booming real estate market and now works with Elite Pacific Properties, a company that specializes in upscale real estate.
“We are trying to set the market on its ear by doing some innovative things,” he says. “This is a new company, but it’s an opportunity to be in on the ground floor, and that’s why I decided to come here.”
Some of the different things Galderia mentions are a flat 1 percent brokerage fee and a cash rebate of 2 percent of the purchase price - something he says has been very popular with clients.
Though the future is exciting for Galderia, he still holds dear the friendships he developed during his long tenure at the station: “I miss the people I worked with. They are great, great people. They are wonderful people and great friends, but I’m enjoying this immensely. It’s a whole new world and I’m really having fun.”
To many, the life of a TV reporter or anchor may seem interesting and even glamorous. Being seen on television while interviewing politicians, athletes and entertainers sounds like a sweet gig. And it can be, but it’s also a lot of work, and the pressure to be first and right can be difficult. So like some of his colleague before him, family was a big reason Galderia looked for a change. The chance to spend more time with wife Kathy, son Kyle and daughter Emma was too much to resist.
“For fun, I’m just enjoying my family. All of us went to Vegas for New Year’s Eve. On the Vegas Strip it was awesome. It was totally packed with people. It was just an incredible experience.”
Now in the business of sales, Galderia falls back on what he learned as a journalist - mainly about dealing with people and make them feel at ease in what can be a stressful situation.
“I think there is a certain level of trust there because I’ve been in their homes every night for years.”
And who better to trust than the guy who dared to challenge Dumpster flies outside the KHNL studios?
