WELCOME to Kimo’s Vegas! Steve Fischer is a historian whose area of expertise is When the Mob Ran Vegas - it’s also the name of his book. He’s spent thousands of hours interviewing people and reviewing old documents (including FBI transcripts) to corroborate the stories in his book. Listen in as we talk about everything from why the Mob stopped killing people in Vegas to how much they were skimming from the casino tax-free to Frank Sinatra’s $400,000 per week gig, plus $70,000 for gambling, a bodyguard and expenses (in 1969 money), Thursday at 9 a.m. on Sports Radio 1420 AM.
The suit John Lennon is wearing
here just sold for $118,000
YOU’VE SEEN the Beatles Abbey Road album or maybe even owned a copy of their last recording together. Remember the white suit John Lennon wore on the cover? It sold at a Vegas auction for $118,000. (I know what you’re thinking: I wonder how much Eminem’s hoodie will fetch?) The winner didn’t stop there. He also bought the jacket John wore in the Imagine video for $32,000. The Austin Princess he drove in the movie went for $150,000.
IN ANOTHER Vegas auction, a light-blue 1975 Ford Escort GL (street value $500 ... maybe) sold for $690,000! Before you run to Cutter for an Escort of your own, you should know that this was no ordinary Ford Escort. It had the usual nicks and dents and came with no hubcaps, no air conditioning and no radio - but it did have a papal lineage. This Escort was once owned by Pope John Paul II. As a bonus, the winning bidder got a few other possessions of the pope’s, including wooden rosary beads and a dashboard medallion of St. Maria Goretti.
