AS YOGI BERRA said, “It’s déjà vu all over again” ... on the Las Vegas Cultural Corridor, on LV Blvd. (between Washington and Sahara Aves.) you’ll find Cashman Center, the Las Vegas Library, the Las Vegas Natural History Museum, Lied Discovery Children’s Museum, The Neon Museum, the Old Las Vegas Mormon Fort State Historic Park and the Reed Whipple Cultural Center. You’ll also find three historic neon signs that will glow brightly once again. The Silver Slipper, Binion’s Horseshoe and Bow & Arrow Motel signs have been refurbished and will be installed in October. The neons are on loan (try getting them back) from the Neon Museum
ACCIDENTALLY ON PURPOSE is the name of the new Jenna Elfman sitcom on CBS. It’s probably what the editors of Caesars Player magazine were thinking when they ran a story in the Spring/Summer edition about eating healthy with South Beach Diet doc Arthur Agatston immediately followed by an article on Paula Dean’s cooking. His philosophy: “It’s really a healthy lifestyle, not a diet”... Hers: “A stick of butter, a hunk of cheese and a pot of frying oil can make almost any recipe better.”

WHAT’S THE DEAL with the folks walking the strip in red shirts last week? About 600 dealers and other members of the Transport Workers Union Local 721 picketed Caesars to protest the lack of progress in their contract negotiations with Harrah’s.
HARRAH’S ENTERTAINMENT has bought $140 million of the Planet Hollywood Resort’s debt one day before they defaulted on an $860 million dollar loan’s interest payment. Analysts believe that buying heavily discounted highly leveraged debt is the cheapest way of acquiring a property. Meanwhile Harrah’s is looking to borrow $750 million to refinance its existing debt a reported $19.3 billion.

IGT makes the “Bonus” video poker machine but you’ll find the exact same machine made by WMS called “4 of a Kind.” Likewise “Double Bonus” is “Double 4 of a Kind,” and “Double Double Bonus” is the same as “Double 2x 4 of a Kind.”
OF THE 100 BEST cities to raise a family, Las Vegas is rated 92nd by “Children’s Health Magazine,” making it one of the worst… Honolulu ranks No. 7 on the same chart.
