LEAVING LAS VEGAS?
After the commission’s casual dismissal of his objection to the use of Vaseline by Gorges St. Pierre in Match 94, UFC champ BJ Penn says “Honestly, I have no interest in ever fighting in Nevada or Las Vegas again.” On Aug. 8 the Hawaii resident will defend his lightweight title against Kenny Florian in UFC101 in Philadelphia.
OMAHA PHILANTHROPIST Terrance K. Watanabe lost $94.1 million at Caesars and $12.2 million at the Rio in 2007. After paying all but $14.7 million, he was indicted for theft and passing bad checks. Pleading not guilty at his arraignment, he accused the Harrahs casinos of keeping him in a constant state of alcohol and prescription-drug intoxication, a violation of state gaming regulations. The trial is set for Nov. 16.
AT THE PALAZZO, a 21-year-old man on his first trip to Vegas hit the dollar Wheel of Fortune for $1,114,103. How did he pick the right machine? The anonymous winner said he used “eenie, meenie, miney, mo” (that never works for me), then played $5 and hit the big one.
