MAYOR OSCAR GOODMAN, Santa and helpers will hook up the lights on the Fremont Street Experience Dec. 9. The official Downtown tree-lighting ceremony starts at 6 p.m. on the 1st St. stage and will be followed by a Holiday on Ice performance.

IF YOU’RE IN TOWN after Dec. 7, check out the city’s best holiday display at the Bellagio’s Conservatory and Botanical Gardens. See flying reindeer (made of whole pecans) and a family of snow-people (created from white carnations). Almost everything in the display is made from botanicals (flora and fauna). A 21-foot-tall wreath and a 32-foot Shasta fir highlight the annual Winter Wonderland.

Each year the display changes five times, and here is next year’s schedule: Chinese New Year: Jan. 11 to Feb. 28; Spring: March 8 to May 16; Summer: May 24 to Sept. 12; Fall: Sept. 20 to Nov. 29; and Holiday: Dec. 6 to Jan. 2, 2010.

JUST RELEASED and just in time for holiday Warrior fan gift-giving: Vacations Hawaii charter packages for the UH vs. UNLV game starting at $899. The three- to seven-day charters leave Hawaii Sept. 15, 16, 17 or 18 for the Sept. 19 game.

OPENING DEC. 11, another over-the-top eatery ... Viva McDonald’s. Promising to be like no other, it’s across the street from the Riviera. Bring your camera to the VIP (invite-only) event on Dec. 9, because you never know who’ll show up or be one of the first to get a Big Mac when the newest state-of-the-art Golden Arches opens.
