IN MINNEAPOLIS, the feds seized several billion dollars of Tom Petters’assets when they discovered a scheme that bilked more than $3 billion from investors since 1995. The investigation uncovered checks to his partner and executives in the company (co-conspirators) for millions of dollars. According to the FBI report, he also had gambling losses in excess of $10 million and is the biggest comped guest at the Bellagio.
THE LAS VEGAS office of the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) is supposed to register low-income Nevadans to vote. Authorities became suspicious when the organization turned in registration forms for Tony Romo, Terrell Owens and rest of the Dallas Cowboys starting lineup ... none of them is low income or a resident of the Silver State.

DID YOU KNOW that while Nicolas Cage was playing a car thief (Randall Memphis) in the movie Gone in 60 Seconds, someone stole his car? Bid on his personal “Eleanor” at this weekend’s Barrett-Jackson Auction Company’s inaugural Las Vegas event at the Mandalay Bay Events Center.
THE MGM MIRAGE got a step closer to finishing its $9.2-billion, 76-acre, 16,797,000-square-foot CityCenter. Bank of America, Royal Bank of Scotland, UBS, BNP Paribas and Sumitomo Mitsui came to the table with $1.8 billion in funding, leaving the company in search of another $1.2 billion to finish the project.
PLAZA vs. PLAZA ... And the winner is ... Plaza. The owners of the Plaza New York bought the old Frontier and planned to build a copy of their hotel in Vegas. The owners of the Plaza (downtown) sued the Plaza (from the Big Apple) to prevent it from using the Plaza name. Ajury agreed with the Plaza (NYC) and ruled in favor of it using the Plaza name. The new Plaza owners have delayed construction because of financing difficulties, so it won’t be much of a problem until the $5 billion project is completed in 2012.
ENTERTAINMENT CITY, the Las Vegas of the Philippines, has gotten the green light from the local government. Construction on the $15 billion project is expected to begin in the first quarter of next year and be completed in five years.
