WELCOME to Kimo’s Vegas ... The Player’s Edge!
GOOD NEWS for Celine Dion fans: The diva may be returning to Caesars Palace Coliseum. The bad news is it may be a few years before she does. Currently on a world tour, her last contract at Caesars was worth $100 million and brought more than 2.5 million people through the doors.
LUCKY WE LIVE HAWAII ... The editors of LIFE: Dream Destinations: 100 of the World’s Best Vacations! have scoured the globe for the book. Making the cut are London, Snowmass, Colo., Massachusetts, Nanjing, China, The Bosporus Strait, Le Marche, Italy, Saint Lucia, Anahola Bay and the Kalaupapa Peninsula (here at home) and more. Missing from the list: anything in Las Vegas.
LOOK FOR A new book out later this month called The Secret Life of Siegfried & Roy. It’s a tell-all book by ex-employees of the magicians. What really went on backstage? We’ll just have to wait a few weeks to see ...
WOLFGANG PUCK’S CUT is now open in the Palazzo. The little sister of the Beverly Hills restaurant is a steak snob’s dream featuring USDA Prime Nebraska corn-fed, 35-day dry-aged steaks and 100 percent Wagyu beef cooked on a wood and charcoal grill, then broiled at 1,200 degrees. Dinner for two can be expensive, especially when ordering the imported Japanese beef.
THE BEST TAIL in town ... the 99 cent Shrimp Cocktail has officially become a thing of the past. For the second time in almost 50 years, the oldest casino in Vegas, the Golden Gate hotel and casino, has raised the price of its shrimp cocktail. In 1991 the price jumped from 50 cents to 99 cents to its current price of $1.99. The rising cost of cold-water shrimp is to blame ... execs say they sell up to 3,500 per day, and to date they’ve sold more than 30 million cocktails.
SOME GUYS have all the luck. Last week, Hawaiian105 KINE’s Billy V. did his morning show live from Las Vegas ... stopping by the Cal to keep him company were Miss Leahi 2008 Piilani Klein and Miss Downtown Honolulu Rachael Gonzales.
HUSTLER HONCO Larry Flynt is looking to expand his brand and open a casino in Las Vegas. With many properties on and near the Strip in trouble, we may see a Hustler Hotel and Casino sooner instead of later.
LAS VEGAS quote of the week: “My colleagues and I are paid to run hotels in good times and fair times ... This is not a company that gives a damn about short-term markets.” Sage words from Steve Wynn, who says that his company does not lay off employees to improve the bottom line.
SEVEN OUT, the $250,000 Game Show Spectacular that featured revolving hosts Chuck Woolery (Love Connection), Jamie Farr (M.A.S.H.) and Bob Eubanks (The Newlywed Game) at the Las Vegas Hilton has closed down - and not because they gave away the $250K.
