VAN HALEN WILL headline this year’s AT&T Tiger Jam XI at the Mandalay Bay Events Center April 19. The benefit for the Tiger Woods Foundation is part concert, part dinner and part auction that raised more than $1.5 million last year. Don’t go looking for bargains at the auction - one-of-a-kind experiences like a putting lesson with Tiger Woods went for $95,000, lunch with (last year’s headliners) Bon Jovi was $64,000 and a trip to this year’s Olympic Games in Beijing sold for $125,000.
VIDEO POKER PLAYERS know that quads (four of a kind) can make the difference between having a winning or losing session on your favorite machine. Coming soon to a casino near you is a new VP variant called Quick Quads. One of the new machine’s features is if you have a three of a kind and the total of your fourth and fifth card matches the other three, you win as if you had quads. So 3-3-3 with an ace-deuce would pay the same as four threes. The catch is it’ll cost you an additional (sixth) coin to activate all the Quick Quad bonuses.

The CD is good, but the show at the Mirage is even better.

GET CHAR SIU BAU? Asia Town Center is a new 180,000-square-foot shopping center (the biggest in the Southwest) featuring Asian groceries, merchandise and hot foods at warehouse prices. It’ll open in the spring of this year at the corner of Warm Springs Road and Jones Boulevard.

IN THE MIDST of a $2.2 billion expansion, Steve Wynn tells Wall Street, “It would be unsophisticated to think Las Vegas is a magical island unto itself immune from the effects of the communities that serve it and its visitors.” Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization fell 3.8 percent to $97.3 million because gamblers won more (hooray for us) and foot traffic decreased because of the closing of the Stardust and New Frontier.
CALIFORNIA VOTERS have agreed to pump up its Indian casinos by approving a bill that could make their casinos bigger than the ones in Vegas. The Golden State is already the largest Indian casino market with almost 30 percent of 2006’s $7.7 billion in tribal gaming revenue. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger is hoping the move will pump up the state’s $10 billion tax deficit.
