IN LATE DECEMBER, the award-winning chef and newlywed Wolfgang Puck will open his sixth Vegas eatery called CUT. Modeled after its older sister in Beverly Hills, the super-chic steakhouse will be located in the Venetian’s new sister hotel casino, The Palazzo.
LONG TRAIN RUNNING ... DesertXpress Enterprises is building a high-speed conventional rail line along Interstate 15 that’ll speed passengers between L.A. and Las Vegas in 90 minutes. The company says it’ll cost about $3.5 billion and be completed by 2012.
AT THE RIO, you can get a massage while you’re playing at the tables. At two bucks a minute it ain’t cheap, but what more could you ask for?
GOOD NEWS: The Nevada Gaming Commission unanimously rejected a plan that would allow players to use their debit cards to buy a voucher that can be inserted into a slot machine’s ticket receptor just like cash.
BAD NEWS: They still have ATMs in the casinos, and what the casinos really want us to do is insert our debit cards directly into the slot machines!

OPENED ORIGINALLY as Hotel Last Frontier in 1942, the home of Elvis’s first Vegas performance will be torn down around Nov. 13. In preparation for the implosion, construction workers were seen acting like rock stars and tossing TVs from the hotel room windows. Did you know that the famous marquee once caught fire in the rain? The wetness caused the wiring to spark, and that ignited all the pigeon poo inside the marquee.
