AFTER HER appearance at the grand opening of LAX, pop tart Britney Spears was spotted making out with mind freak Criss Angel at McDonald’s. The duo is rumored to be working on her MTV music awards opening performance. Meanwhile producer Timbaland would rather the drama queen appear in the audience instead of onstage. VEGAS CLUBS are all competing for the attention (appearances) from the names attending the MTV soirée. More than 300 celebs have been invited to Blush (the new club in the Wynn). For their trouble the VIPs will get pampered by masseuses and hairdressers and receive a gift bag stuffed with clothing, spa packages and jewelry. The big, big stars will also get a big pile o’cash for their trouble.

JAY-Z AND main squeeze Beyonce were in town to announce the opening of the music mogul’s 40/40 club named after the four baseball players (Jose Canseco, Barry Bonds, Alex Rodriguez and Alfonso Soriano) who scored 40 home runs and 40 stolen bases in one season. The ultra-upscale sports lounge is a known hangout for big name athletes and jock sniffers. Set in the billion-dollar sister to the Venetian, the club and hotel will open October.

JO ANN writes in to say her favorite omiyage comes from the Grand Lux Café in the Venetian. Created by David Overton, founder of the Cheesecake Factory, they’ll bake a dozen cookies while you dine… not sure they would make the trip back home (with me).

DWAYNE “THE ROCK” Johnson has signed with Disney to star in Witch Mountain, a remake of the 1975 movie Escape to Witch Mountain. He’ll play a Las Vegas taxi cab driver who picks up a pair of youngsters who have special powers.

OCTOBER is car month on the Fremont Street Experience with the VW Car Show on the 6th, the NHRA Street Party on the 25th and the Mustang lovers club on the 27th.

TRAFFIC was so bad on Labor Day weekend the Strip was a like parking lot! Cars were stopped for so long the police had no problems checking cars randomly.
